Chapelle d'Ausone 2020 is the second wine of Château Ausone in Saint-Émilion, made on the same estate as the Grand Vin. It is drawn from selections of younger vines and parcels not included in the first wine, while being produced under comparable conditions. That makes it a serious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in its own right, carrying the Ausone signature through a slightly different expression.
The 2020 blend is led by Cabernet Franc, at 60%, with 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. That Cabernet Franc presence is central to the wine's aromatic, floral and savoury side. Its origin on the estate's clay-limestone slopes and asteria limestone also supports the chalky, mineral impression noted across tasting descriptions.

Chapelle d'Ausone 2022 is the second wine of Château Ausone, although that description hardly makes it feel secondary. This red Saint-Émilion Grand Cru comes from the same limestone plateau and clay-limestone slopes that define the estate, with this cuvée centred on younger vines and selected parts of the terroir.
Cabernet franc leads the 2022 blend, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet sauvignon. The grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted before parcel-by-parcel vinification with native yeasts in small wooden foudres. The wine then spent 20 months in new barriques in the estate's underground limestone quarries. Château Ausone 2020 is a Saint-Émilion with a very clear sense of origin. It is the grand vin of Château Ausone, drawn from the small estate's limestone and clay-limestone slopes and plateau in Saint-Émilion. For the 2020 vintage, it was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A under the classification in force at that time.
The blend is 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot, a composition that gives the wine depth, structure and a strong Cabernet Franc signature. The grapes were harvested by hand in September 2020, then vinified traditionally by parcel. Maturation took place for around 20 months in entirely new French oak barriques.
