Glenlochy 1980 35y Sigrare is a whisky built around time, restraint and a very small-scale release. Distilled on 6 November 1980 and bottled on 2 December 2015, this Highland single malt spent 35 years maturing before being released by Signatory as part of the Rare Reserve series.
Its appeal lies in the detail. This is a single cask whisky from a hogshead, bottled at cask strength at 48%, with only 71 bottles drawn in total. Rather than presenting a broad house style, it captures one individual cask at one particular point in its life.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, bottles like this are valued for that sense of specificity. The profile points towards a fruit-led whisky, with wood and spice giving structure, and without peat taking the lead.
