Leclerc Briant is a French Champagne house with roots dating back to the mid-19th century, when Lucien Leclerc began producing Champagne in the village of Cumières in 1872. The company moved around 1955 to Épernay, in the heart of the Champagne region, thereby locating itself closer to other prominent houses. Leclerc Briant is particularly known for its early commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, an approach that was relatively exceptional in the region. Since the beginning of the 21st century, this path has been further continued, with full certification in the field of sustainability. The Champagnes of Leclerc Briant are generally sourced from a number of selected vineyards, spread over various crus in the region, and the house mostly works with classic grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation and long aging sur lie are often chosen, which contributes to the complex character of the wines. Today, the Champagne house is owned by a private pair of investors from the United States and is internationally valued for the pure, often mineral-driven style and the focus on terroir. In addition to their regular range, Leclerc Briant also releases some special cuvées under the name Clos d'Avize, originating from a specific vineyard in Avize, which is characteristic of their pursuit of expressing origin.
