Flavour notes

The aroma is fresh and intense, opening clearly on juniper and citrus fruit. Yuzu and candied orange peel bring a bright fruit note, while violet, fennel, sweet spice and liquorice add extra aromatic detail.

On the palate the same freshness carries through. It begins in a floral register, then turns more spicy and fruity with mandarin, melon and cubeb pepper. Angelica, nutmeg, orris root and star anise appear as it develops. The finish is very long, floral and fruity, with citrus, almond, cumin and grains of paradise.

Product info about Citadelle Jardin D'ete

Citadelle Jardin d'Eté is a French dry gin with a bright, aromatic style built around citrus, florals and fresh spice. Juniper is clearly present, as it should be, but Citadelle surrounds it with a broader botanical composition of 22 ingredients.

What makes it stand out is the way the freshness develops beyond simple citrus. The nose is lively and intense, with citrus fruit and juniper first, followed by violet and a gentle spicy touch. On the palate the floral side comes forward, joined by melon and mandarin, while nutmeg and angelica add a more savoury herbal depth later on.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of gin we like to present for a fragrant, refreshing Gin & Tonic that still has plenty to discover. The suggested serve with Erasmus Bond Classic and a lemon zest fits its citrus-led and floral character particularly well.

About CITADELLE

Maison Ferrand is known first and foremost for the cognacs they make. For that, everything starts in the vineyards. Those are in the heart of the prestigious Grande Champagne, a premier cru region in the Cognac region. Walking past those vines, you immediately sense what makes Grande Champagne such a special region. It looks like inhospitable chalky soil and yet the vibrancy splashes from the grapes. It is this terroir that ensures the worldwide praise and love for the cognacs made here. Here, in the centre of Cognac, in the small village of Segonzac, Elie Ferrand was born in 1630.

Ten generations of Elie Ferrand later, Mademoiselle Manor, home of the Ferrand family, still stands here. Following in the footsteps of those forefathers, the current generation still follows Ferrand. They seek the perfect harmony between nature and man, and make great efforts to cultivate the land and the plants that grow there healthily. Shropshire sheep wander among the vines in winter, naturally keeping the sown grass short and providing natural fertilisation. In this way, the vineyard is optimally prepared for a new growing season, but also in the long term for future generations.

Ugni Blanc is the essential cognac grape and is known for its high acidity that protects the wine until it is ready for distillation. The resulting eaux-de-vie from these grapes are known for their exceptional finesse and are well suited to long ageing. Ferrand also experiments with other grape varieties, with a view to reviving old techniques. among them, for example, the Colombard, which is used for the Ferrand Ambré. A unique feature of Cognac Ferrand is that they apply another specific heat treatment just after obtaining the heart of their distillate, to extract additional aromas. This sensitively increases the complexity of their product. Next, Ferrand adds perhaps the most important ingredient: time. Over a period of many years, the alcohol slowly matures into cognac, creating Ferrand's famous cognacs.

In addition to world-class cognacs, Maison Ferrand makes other spirits. One of the most famous is undoubtedly the Citadelle Gin.

Frequently asked questions

Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete suitable to give as a gift?

Although this Citadelle Jardin D'Ete is not or does not have explicit gift packaging, it can certainly make an excellent gift. Gift packs are usually taken as a safe choice of gift because brands often combine the most accessible or their most popular gin combine with a fun accessory in a nice gift pack. But if you are looking for a gift for an experienced gin-drinker they may not be waiting for yet another glass and then this one Citadelle Jardin D'Ete might even be a better choice than such a gift pack.

Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete a popular gin?

Absolutely! Citadelle Jardin D'Ete is a gin that is currently included in our Top 100. This top contains the 100 products that were sold most often in our shops over the past 12 months, which is a good indicator of the product's stable popularity over a longer period of time.

Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete een goede keuze voor mij?

This Citadelle Jardin D'Ete can be a gin one that suits you if you like a gin with a floral character. Indeed, this florality is quite emphatic in the flavour profile.

However, we recommend that you also look at the rest of the flavour profile, as this florality is of course only one part of the overall character of this gin.

Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete a spicy gin?

On its own, yes, but this Citadelle Jardin D'Ete is one gin with only a slightly spicy flavour profile: the spiciness of this gin is not emphatic in the flavour profile, but it is there.

The spiciness of a spirit can come about in different ways.

  • In whisky, the spicy notes mainly arise during the maturation process in wooden casks. The type of wood used (e.g. American oak, European oak) and whether the casks have been used before (e.g. sherry casks) have a big influence on the spiciness of the whisky that comes out of them.
  • With rum, the spicy notes can also come from the barrels used, but in addition there is also a separate class of "Spiced rum" where extra spices are added.
  • Gin has a much shorter production cycle and therefore does not usually get its spiciness from wood. Spicy notes in a gin are usually the direct result of the botanicals used to "colour" the gin and give it its own identity.
Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete a fruity gin?

Yes, Citadelle Jardin D'Ete is a gin with an intensely fruity flavour profile: the fruitiness of this gin will be discernible right from the first sip from your glass.

  • Whiskies with a fruity character can range from light and fresh apple notes to deep, ripe stone fruits and exotic aromas. This fruitiness can come from the grains, yeast and fermentation used, the shape of the pot stills and the cask type.
  • Rum made from sugar cane or molasses lends itself ideally to fruity notes. From the fresh citrus aromas of a white rum to the deep pineapple and banana notes of an aged variety - fruitiness is an essential characteristic in many rums. Again, the same factors affect fruitiness as with whisky.
Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete a sweet gin?

By itself, yes, but the sweetness in this Citadelle Jardin D'Ete gin is only slightly present in the flavour profile.

Sweet gin is usually the most accessible version. Because that pronounced sweetness is missing here, it may be a gin that does not strike a mainstream chord with everyone.

Does Citadelle Jardin D'Ete have a high alcohol content?

This gin from Citadelle has a normal alcohol content. Within gin alcohol levels of up to 43% are most common.

Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete vegan?

According to the data currently available to us, we cannot state with certainty that this product is vegan and this claim is not explicitly made by the brand.

Is Citadelle Jardin D'Ete a biological gin?

Based on the information available to us, we can conclude that this Citadelle Jardin D'Ete gin from Citadelle is not an organic product.
