About PERNOD
Pernod is a French brand whose name has been linked to anise drinks since the 19th century. Founded in 1805, when Henri-Louis Pernod established a distillery in Pontarlier in the south of France, the brand became initially famous for absinthe, which was very popular at the time. After the ban on absinthe in 1915, Pernod switched to other anise drinks, including the well-known pastis, which has been marketed under the Pernod name since 1938. Today, this pastis is made from a distillate of various herbs and spices, including star anise, coriander, and mint, with the subtle balance between fresh and spicy notes being characteristic. Pernod is traditionally drunk with water, which gives the drink a milky, cloudy appearance.
