Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2019 is the second wine of Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien, Bordeaux. It carries the imprint of the estate while being made with a more approachable character than the grand vin, built from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small share of Petit Verdot.The 2019 vintage was shaped by contrast: a cold, wet spring followed by a dry, hot and very sunny summer. Château Lagrange deliberately waited between the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon harvests to reach the desired phenolic ripeness. The grapes were hand-picked, carefully sorted and vinified by parcel in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats.
After blending, the wine spent 13 months in barriques, 20% of them new. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this magnum stands out as a Saint-Julien with real Bordeaux pedigree, yet with a style that is meant to be enjoyed earlier than the estate's grand vin while still having the structure to develop in bottle.
The official technical sheet gives a drinking window from 2022 to 2040. In this 1.5-litre format, and with only the last bottles indicated, it is a fine choice for a generous table with red meat, game, duck, lamb, slow-cooked dishes, grilled vegetables or mature soft cheeses.
