Château Cos d'Estournel 2016 Magnum is the grand vin of this Saint-Estèphe estate in the northern Médoc. As a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, Cos d'Estournel carries a serious Bordeaux pedigree, and the 2016 vintage brings together concentration, refinement and clear Saint-Estèphe structure.The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet franc. The growing season was marked by contrast: a cold, wet start, followed by a warm, dry summer, with September rain helping the ripening process resume. According to the estate, the berries reached ripeness without becoming overripe. In the gravity-fed cellar, gentle handling was used to preserve fruit expression and freshness.
In magnum, the wine has an extra sense of occasion. The 1.5-litre bottle suits a generous table, patient cellaring or a moment where mature Bordeaux character is meant to take centre stage. Château Cos d'Estournel is a renowned winery from the French Bordeaux region, specifically located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation in the Médoc. The estate was founded in the early 19th century by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, who dedicated himself to producing complex and characterful wines exclusively from his own vineyards. Cos d'Estournel is known as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé since the famous 1855 classification, in which it was counted among the top of the region. The winery covers about 100 hectares and has been expanded and modernized during various periods, but the distinctive Asian-inspired architecture and the impressive gatehouse are still iconic.
