Zeni Amarone Valpolicella Classico 2018 Demi is a classic Amarone from the Valpolicella Classica area, bottled here in a convenient 37.5 cl half bottle. It is a useful format when you want the depth of Amarone without opening a full bottle.The wine is made by Cantina F.lli Zeni in Bardolino, near Lake Garda in the province of Verona. Zeni works with Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella for this Amarone, using hand-selected grapes from hillside vineyards. Before fermentation, the grapes are dried for 2 to 3 months to concentrate sugars, extract, aromas and glycerine. The wine then undergoes traditional skin fermentation and matures for 2 to 3 years in large oak casks.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as the kind of Italian red that belongs at the table rather than in the background. Zeni recommends it with red meat, braised dishes, game and fermented cheeses. Serve it at 17 to 19 °C and open the bottle at least half an hour beforehand to give the wine time to unfold.
