Clos de l'Oratoire 2019 Magnum presents Saint-Émilion in a format with real table presence. The 1.5-litre bottle contains the same cuvée as the standard release, but the magnum format gives it a broader sense of occasion, whether opened with a meal or kept for further development.This red Bordeaux comes from AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and is classified as Grand Cru Classé. The 2019 blend is built around 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc. Merlot gives the wine its roundness and volume, while Cabernet Franc adds aromatic complexity, structure and length. The vineyard lies on the north-eastern slope of Saint-Émilion, with sandy topsoil, clay subsoil and further clay-limestone and clay-sand components across the estate.
The winemaking underlines the serious character of the vintage. Fermentation took place over 30 days in wooden vats, with extraction by pneumatic pigeage, followed by 16 months on fine lees in oak barrels, half of them new. That oak influence appears in the wine through notes such as cacao, chocolate, tobacco, cedar, spice and gentle toast, rather than as a separate layer.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this magnum as a fine example of structured, age-worthy Saint-Émilion. The 2019 vintage received strong critical recognition, including 96 points from Jeb Dunnuck and 94 points from both Vinous and James Suckling.
