Flavour notes

The colour is garnet red with bright reflections. Aromatically, it brings together rose petals, juniper berries and fine spices, followed by violet, blueberry, forest berries, raspberry, cherry and pomegranate.

The palate carries more savoury and earthy detail: star anise, mint, truffle, tobacco, leather, iron, eucalyptus and forest floor. Fresh acidity gives shape, while the tannins range from fine to firm. The finish is long, with some youthful tension and grip that may soften further with bottle ageing.

Product info about Michele Chiarlo Barolo Tortoniano 2018 Magnum (1,5l)

Michele Chiarlo Barolo Tortoniano 2018 in magnum is a Barolo built around place and patience. The name Tortoniano refers to Tortonian soils: calcareous clay marl of ancient marine sedimentary origin. For the 2018 vintage, the nebbiolo grapes come from Chiarlo's Cerequio and Cannubi vineyards, giving this wine a clear sense of origin within Barolo.

The growing season adds another layer to the story. After a wet late winter and spring, a warm, dry summer followed. Because fruit set was generous, 30 to 35% of the bunches were thinned out. Mild days and cool nights towards the end of summer and through September allowed gradual ripening, with harvest taking place from 6 to 10 October.

In the cellar, the approach is measured: stainless-steel fermentation, 15 to 18 days of skin contact and maturation for 18 to 24 months in medium-sized oak casks, followed by bottle ageing. The result is described in a structured, elegant style rather than a heavy one, with fresh acidity, fine to firm tannins and a long finish.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this magnum stands out for customers who appreciate Barolo as a wine of detail, timing and table presence. It has the stature for dishes such as mushroom pasta, poultry or mature cheeses, while the limited remaining availability gives this 1.5-litre format an extra sense of occasion.
