Michele Chiarlo Barbaresco Asili 2019 comes from one of the most clearly defined origins within Barbaresco: the Asili vineyard in the commune of Barbaresco. This red wine from Piedmont is made entirely from Nebbiolo, sourced from around one hectare of vines planted in 1990.For Michele Chiarlo, 2019 was a classic vintage, with a smaller crop but high quality. The Barbaresco wines showed colour and aromatic richness early, while keeping the structure and ageing potential that give this style its seriousness.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of bottle we like to present when origin, vintage and careful cellar work all matter. The grapes are hand-harvested, yields are managed by thinning excess bunches at the end of summer, and the production philosophy is certified under V.I.V.A. Sustainable Wine. Fermentation and skin contact take place in oak vats, followed by at least two years of ageing, including 18 months in medium-sized oak casks and further refinement in bottle.
The 2019 has received strong recognition from James Suckling, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator and Falstaff. With the last bottles now available, it is a compelling choice for anyone looking for a serious Asili Barbaresco with Nebbiolo structure, aromatic depth and a natural place at the table alongside mushroom risotto, roast pork or rack of lamb.

Michele Chiarlo is an Italian wine producer from Piemonte, founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo himself. The family company has been active since the beginning in one of the most highly regarded wine regions of Northern Italy, and has strongly focused on producing wines that reflect the character of the region. The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo are mainly located in the most famous Piemontese zones, including Barolo and Barbaresco for the red wines from the Nebbiolo grape, but also in regions such as Asti for Barbera and Moscato, among others. Quality and terroir are central in the winery's approach; a lot of attention is paid to sustainable viticultural practices and a careful selection of grapes. The assortment of Michele Chiarlo ranges from fresh, floral white wines to structured, complex red wines that are typical for Piemonte.
