Michele Chiarlo Countacc Monferrato 2016 is a Piedmontese red with a slightly different voice within the Michele Chiarlo range. The wine comes from Monferrato DOC and places Barbera at its centre, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. That combination gives Countacc a broader frame than the house's more classical Barbera and Nebbiolo wines.Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 in Calamandrana, in an area closely associated with Barbera. Countacc draws on that Monferrato identity, while the use of barrique ageing adds another layer to its full, dark-coloured style. It is a wine built around ripe fruit, structure and a clear touch of oak influence.
The 2016 vintage adds meaningful context. Michele Chiarlo regarded it as a very strong year for Piedmont, shaped by gradual ripening, a dry and sunny summer without extreme heat, and marked day-night temperature differences during the ripening period. According to the producer, these conditions helped develop aromatic expression, healthy grapes with thick skins and structure in the red wines.

Michele Chiarlo is an Italian wine producer from Piemonte, founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo himself. The family company has been active since the beginning in one of the most highly regarded wine regions of Northern Italy, and has strongly focused on producing wines that reflect the character of the region. The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo are mainly located in the most famous Piemontese zones, including Barolo and Barbaresco for the red wines from the Nebbiolo grape, but also in regions such as Asti for Barbera and Moscato, among others. Quality and terroir are central in the winery's approach; a lot of attention is paid to sustainable viticultural practices and a careful selection of grapes. The assortment of Michele Chiarlo ranges from fresh, floral white wines to structured, complex red wines that are typical for Piemonte. The wines of the house are known for their balance and accessibility, and are appreciated worldwide.
