Chateau Durfort Vivens 2019 is the grand vin of Château Durfort-Vivens in Margaux, a dry red Bordeaux shaped above all by Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification and works with organic and biodynamic certification, including Demeter. That combination gives the wine a very classical Bordeaux identity, but with a clearly deliberate approach in the vineyard.The 2019 blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Its fruit comes from deep gravel soils within the Margaux appellation, including parcels in Margaux, Cantenac, Soussans and Arsac. The growing season brought its share of challenges, with spring frost concerns, June rain and then a warm, dry summer, yet the château describes the finished wine in terms of balance.
In the cellar, Durfort-Vivens works parcel by parcel, using wooden vats, concrete tanks and terracotta jars. The wine matured for 18 months, mainly in new French oak barriques, with a significant share in TAVA terracotta amphorae. The domaine has a long history that dates back to the 17th century and received its current name after being acquired by the Vivens family in the 19th century. Today, Chateau Durfort-Vivens is owned by Gonzague Lurton, who has continued the winery in the Bordeaux tradition with an emphasis on respect for the terroir.
