Flavour notes

The aromatic profile brings together dark and red fruit: cassis, black cherry, blueberry and blackberry, alongside raspberry and strawberry. Around that fruit sit violet, anise, liquorice, mint, cedar, tobacco, graphite, forest floor, tea and a light touch of vanilla.

On the palate it is medium to medium-full bodied, with concentrated fruit and fresh acidity. The tannins are firm yet finely shaped, giving a velvety impression. The finish is persistent, with spicy-mineral notes and subtle echoes of cedar, tobacco, espresso and roasted accents.

Product info about Chateau Cantenac Brown 2019

Château Cantenac Brown 2019 is a dry red Bordeaux from Margaux and the grand vin of the estate. The château is part of the 1855 classification as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé, placing this bottle firmly within the classic Left Bank tradition.

The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, with 68% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot. For the 2019 vintage, 51% of the harvest was selected for Château Cantenac Brown, underlining its role as the estate's carefully chosen main wine. It was matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% new and 40% one-year-old.

The growing season was eventful: early budbreak, cooler flowering conditions, July heat, dryness around véraison and well-timed rain in early September. Merlot was picked from 18 September, followed by cabernet sauvignon between 2 and 9 October. The producer describes the young wine as fresh and dense, with present yet velvety tannins.

In the Bordeaux selection at Drankenshop Broekmans, this is a bottle for those looking for Margaux with structure, recognised quality and cellar potential. Available ratings place the wine at a high level, with several scores in the mid-nineties, while most drinking windows still regard the 2019 as youthful. With the final bottles now available, it is a vintage worth considering while it remains in stock.

About CH CANTENAC BROWN

Ch Cantenac Brown is a wine estate from the Bordeaux region and is located in the Margaux appellation, which is known for elegant and refined red wines based on cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. The estate was originally founded in the early 19th century by John Lewis Brown, of Scottish origin, and was classified in 1855 as a Troisième Cru during the famous classification of the wines from the Medoc. The chateau is remarkable for its English Tudor-style architecture, which is quite unique in Bordeaux. Ch Cantenac Brown owns about 48 hectares of vineyard with mainly clay and gravel soils, which are favorable for the ripening of the grapes and the character of the wine. The wine estate has changed ownership several times over the years, but currently it belongs to a private investor who focuses on quality and sustainability. The wines from this estate are often known for their structure, fine balance and their potential to age. Ch Cantenac Brown works with respect for nature, including through sustainable vineyard practices. The assortment mainly consists of red wines, with sometimes a limited production of white wine under the name AltO de Cantenac Brown. With an impressive history and care for the terroir, the estate has acquired a distinctive place in the wine world of Margaux.
