L'Aventure Cuvee Estate 2020 is a full-bodied red wine from Paso Robles, built around an estate-grown blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It brings together Rhône and Bordeaux varieties in a way that says a great deal about L'Aventure: this is not a wine shaped by old appellation rules, but by the possibilities of one vineyard.The estate was founded by Stephan Asseo, who began working in Paso Robles in 1998 after his earlier Bordeaux background. The fruit comes from L'Aventure Vineyard on the west side of Paso Robles, where warm days, strong night-time cooling and ocean influence help support slow ripening, acidity and phenolic maturity.
The 2020 vintage spent 15 months in French oak, mostly new, and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. L'Aventure indicates a cellaring potential of more than 20 years for this wine. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as the kind of serious red that rewards attention: dense, structured and made with enough depth to develop further in bottle.
Its strong critical reception is best understood as recognition of how well this specific 2020 cuvée performed in a challenging year. L'Aventure is a wine brand from the United States with roots in the Paso Robles region, Californiâ. The estate was founded in 1998 by the French winemaker Stephan Asseo, who, after years of experience in Bordeaux, decided to realize his own vision of winemaking in Californiâ. The vineyards are located in the western part of Paso Robles, an area known for its calcareous soils and distinctive Mediterranean climate. L'Aventure is especially known for its blends of Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Petit Verdot.
