Quintessa 2019 Demi is the half-bottle format of The Quintessa Estate Red Wine from Rutherford in Napa Valley. Demi refers to the 37.5 cl bottle, not to a separate cuvée or a sweeter style. This is the same dry red estate blend, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Carménère and Petit Verdot.The wine is closely tied to the Quintessa Estate in eastern Rutherford, between the Vaca Mountains and the Napa River. The property brings together hillsides, valleys, different exposures and varied soils, including volcanic ash in the eastern hills and silty loam on the bench. The estate is farmed organically and biodynamically, and the 2019 vintage allowed the individual vineyard blocks to be handled with particular precision.
In the cellar, each block was treated separately, with fermentation vessels chosen to suit the character of the parcel. A significant part of the estate wine is fermented in concrete to preserve aromatic clarity and pure fruit expression. The wine then spent an average of 26 days on the skins, followed by 22 months in French oak barrels, 60% of them new.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this half bottle stands out because it brings serious Napa Valley depth into a more compact format. The 2019 vintage has also been very highly regarded, with scores including 100 points from Wine Enthusiast and 99 points from James Suckling. Quintessa is a winery from Napa Valley, California, that has positioned itself since its first harvest in 1994 as a producer of wines exclusively from its own estate. This estate is located in the prestigious Rutherford appellation and covers approximately 113 hectares, where various grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carménère are carefully planted. Quintessa mainly produces a single wine per vintage, usually a blend of the aforementioned Bordeaux varietals, which reflects the estate's terroir. The vineyard and winery employ a biodynamic and sustainable approach, which plays an important role both in the vineyards and during the vinification process.
