Flavour notes

The aromatic profile brings together white fruit, citrus and riper tropical notes. White peach, pear, nectarine, mango, pineapple and green guava are joined by lemon, lemon zest, white flowers, hay, meadow herbs and lemongrass.

On the palate it is rounded, fairly full and slightly creamy, while fresh acidity keeps the wine lively. The oak influence appears in subtle touches of toasted hazelnut, smoke and sometimes tobacco. The finish is fresh and zesty, with a light mineral or gravelly nuance.

Product info about Chateau Monbousquet 2020 Blanc

Chateau Monbousquet 2020 Blanc is a dry white Bordeaux with a story that immediately makes it stand apart. Monbousquet is closely associated with the Saint-Émilion area, yet this wine comes from a small white planting of around one hectare on the La Gravière parcel, planted in the 1990s after Gérard Perse and oenologist Michel Rolland decided to introduce white grape varieties to this terroir.

For the 2020 vintage, the blend is sauvignon blanc and sauvignon gris. The grapes were harvested by hand, sorted, and pressed as whole bunches. The wine then spent six months maturing partly in vats, partly in new oak and partly in one-year-old barrels, with lees ageing and bâtonnage adding texture and aromatic depth.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a white Bordeaux with a clear place at the table. It has freshness, but also a rounded, fairly full style that suits fish, shellfish, chicken, veal, pork or cheese. The 2020 growing season was described as early, followed by a hot, dry summer, and that ripeness comes through in the wine's fruit-driven character.

Several critics have also recognised the quality of this vintage, without taking away from what matters most in the glass: a white Monbousquet with origin, texture and ageing perspective. These are the last bottles, and the stated drinking window runs from 2023 to 2033.

About CH MONBOUSQUET

Château Monbousquet is a wine estate in the French Bordeaux region, more specifically in the Saint-Émilion area. The estate has a history dating back to the 16th century, but gained greater recognition in modern times after businessman Gérard Perse acquired it in 1993 and introduced modern winemaking techniques. Château Monbousquet covers approximately 32 hectares with vineyards planted mainly with Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a smaller proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Monbousquet are known for their full-bodied, ripe style and pronounced fruitiness, characteristics often attributed to the combination of grape varieties and the relatively warm microclimate on the estate. Much attention is paid to precision and selective harvesting in both the vineyard and cellar, contributing to the expressive character traits of the wine. In 2006, Château Monbousquet was officially recognized as a Grand Cru Classé in the Saint-Émilion classification, a recognition of the quality the house strives for. In addition to the well-known red wine, the estate also produces a small amount of white wine, usually from Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Sémillon. The combination of rich history, terroir and contemporary viticulture make Monbousquet an interesting name within the Saint-Émilion area.
