Château Poujeaux 2020 is a dry red Bordeaux from Moulis-en-Médoc and represents the château's grand vin. The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and a smaller proportion of petit verdot. That gives the wine a firmly left-bank shape: dark fruit, clear structure, ripe but present tannins and a sense of restraint rather than immediate softness.The 2020 vintage had a marked contrast in weather. A very wet autumn and a mild, humid start to the growing season were followed by a hot, dry summer and early ripening. Harvest took place from 17 September to 2 October, with concentrated merlot and cabernet sauvignon plus petit verdot adding tannic depth and aromatic complexity.
In the cellar, the wine was made with parcel selection. Whole berries were fermented in temperature-controlled vats of stainless steel, wood and concrete, followed by 12 months in barriques, 33% of them new. The oak influence shows through notes such as cedar, cacao, espresso, cigar box and light toast, but the emphasis remains on concentration, finesse and structure.
