Château Lagrange 2020 Magnum is the Grand Vin of Château Lagrange from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux. In this 1.5-litre format, the wine has a natural sense of occasion: a serious red Bordeaux with the depth to be cellared, yet also a bottle made for a generous table.The 2020 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon at 74%, supported by 24% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. That Cabernet backbone is central to the wine's identity, bringing structure, freshness and length, while the château describes the Merlot in this vintage as opulent. The fruit comes from the estate's Saint-Julien vineyards, planted on gravelly and stony soils with clay and limestone beneath. Only 38% of the harvest was selected for the Grand Vin, and 2020 was the estate's smallest crop in thirty years.
The careful approach continues in the cellar, with hand harvesting, detailed sorting, parcel-by-parcel vinification and 21 months of ageing in barriques, 50% of them new oak. Château Lagrange is a well-known wine producer from the Bordeaux region in France, located in the prestigious appellation of Saint-Julien on the left bank of the Gironde. The wine estate has a long history that goes back to the 18th century, with a prominent mention as Troisième Grand Cru Classé since the famous classification of 1855. The estate encompasses over 100 hectares of vineyards, where mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot are cultivated. Under the management of various owners throughout the centuries, including the Japanese Suntory since 1983, Château Lagrange has invested in modern vinification techniques and vineyard management, contributing to the consistent quality of their wines.
