Les Fiefs de Lagrange 2020 is the second wine of Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien, offered here in a 1.5-litre magnum. It comes from the château's own vineyards in the Médoc, set on two gravel rises with clay and limestone below the surface and pebbles and gravel above.The 2020 vintage at Lagrange had a distinctive course. After heavy rainfall and a mild winter, budbreak came early, and that early start carried through to harvest. The grapes were hand-picked in small crates, then sorted carefully, first by whole bunch and then berry by berry. Each lot was vinified according to variety, vine age, terroir and ripeness, which gives this second wine a notably considered feel.
The blend is 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot. In the estate's description, the Merlot contributes generosity and roundness, while Cabernet Sauvignon brings power, freshness and length. Thirteen months in barriques, 20% of them new, add support without pushing the wine into an overly oaked style.
