Château d'Issan 2020 is the grand vin of this historic Margaux estate, a red Bordeaux from France with a firm place in the Médoc tradition. The château is classified as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, yet the 2020 vintage is especially noteworthy because it represents a new step in the estate's own story.Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot form the core of the blend, joined by Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The 2020 vintage was the first in which those three latter varieties were included in the grand vin, linked to parcels from Château Pontac-Lynch. That gives this wine a specific identity within the Château d'Issan line: recognisably Margaux, but with a clear marker of change for the estate.
The grapes were harvested by hand and vinified parcel by parcel in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Ageing took place in French oak barriques, half of them new. At Drankenshop Broekmans, wines like this stand out because they bring together classification, vintage character and ageing potential without needing much embellishment. With the last bottles now available, this is also becoming a less obvious vintage to come across.

About CH D'ISSAN
Ch D'Issan is a historic winery from the famous Bordeaux region in France and is part of the Margaux appellation. The chateau is especially known for its red wines, which are usually composed of classic Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The history of the estate dates back to the 12th century, but Ch D'Issan gained its current reputation mainly from the 19th century onwards, partly due to its classification as Troisième Cru, or third growth status, in the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. The vineyards are situated on gravelly soils near the river Gironde, which contributes to the characteristic style of the wines: elegant, balanced and with fine ageing potential. The production is traditional with great attention to terroir and selection of the grapes. In addition to the Grand Vin, a second wine is also produced, often more accessible at a younger age. Ch D'Issan is widely praised for its refined aromas, a harmonious structure and its ability to age beautifully in the cellar. The chateau itself is a remarkable monument, surrounded by moats, which adds to the unique appearance of this Margaux estate.
