Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion 2020 is a red Bordeaux from Pessac-Léognan, made by Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion. Usually positioned as the château's second wine or complementary cuvée, it still carries a strong sense of origin and vintage, especially in a year described by the estate as focused on precision and tannin structure.The blend is 60% cabernet sauvignon, 39% merlot and 1% petit verdot. The grapes were hand-harvested, left uncrushed, and a portion was vinified as whole bunches. Ageing took place in foudres and oak barrels, with only a limited share of new oak, followed by time in cement vat. That approach keeps the oak in a supporting role rather than letting it dominate the wine.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we like to present when someone is looking for a serious Pessac-Léognan with energy, detail and château character. The 2020 vintage has also received strong recognition, including 94 points from The Wine Advocate, James Suckling and Decanter.
Only the last bottles remain. Serve at around 16 to 18 °C; for a young bottle, about an hour in a carafe can be worthwhile. It is well suited to red meat, lamb, duck, poultry with a rich sauce, mushrooms and mature cheeses.
