Chateau Barbier 2016 is a sweet white wine from Sauternes, made from 100% Sémillon. It belongs to the Bordeaux tradition of wines shaped by patience in the vineyard: overripe grapes concentrated by noble rot are picked by hand in several successive passes, following the development of Botrytis cinerea.Its origin is Fargues, in the south-eastern part of the Sauternes appellation, on clay-gravel soils near Château du Mouret. Château Barbier forms part of the Médeville family's vineyard holdings, a Bordeaux wine family active since 1826, with estates on both banks of the Garonne. Within that portfolio, this is their Sauternes wine.
The 2016 vintage brings together sweetness, aromatic depth and the rounded texture associated with liquoreux white wines. Small lots are fermented separately under temperature control, and product-specific information mentions one year in vats before blending.
