Clos Du Milieu 2022 is a red wine from Castillon, made under the responsibility of Château Angélus. Its character begins with a very specific origin: a single Merlot-planted plot in Castillon-la-Bataille, only a few kilometres from Saint-Émilion.The vineyard sits high on the slope, enclosed by hedges, on deep, cool clay-limestone soils. Château Angélus describes these soils as contributing freshness, tension and density, and that idea runs through the wine. Clos Du Milieu is not presented as a broad Bordeaux blend, but as a focused Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux expression within the wider Angélus range.
The 2022 vintage was warm and dry, with Merlot grapes described as aromatic, with thick skins and ripe pips. After cold maceration and vinification in stainless steel, the wine spent around 18 months in new French oak barrels with fine grain and medium toast. The oak is part of the structure, while the Merlot and limestone-clay origin remain central.
