Château Haut-Batailley 2021 is the grand vin of Château Haut-Batailley, a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac. It should not be confused with Château Batailley: Haut-Batailley is a separate estate, owned since 2017 by the Cazes family. The vineyard lies in the southern part of Pauillac, close to Saint-Julien, on Garonne gravel with a clay subsoil.The 2021 vintage was shaped by a slower growing season after an early start. Rain during flowering and cooler temperatures reduced yields, while more favourable weather towards the end of September helped the grapes reach further maturity. Harvesting was done by hand, with strict selection both in the vineyard and at the sorting table.
The blend is 70% cabernet sauvignon and 30% merlot, so the wine remains firmly cabernet-led. Sixteen months in French oak barriques, 70% of them new, add cedar, tobacco and subtle roasted notes, but the available tasting impressions point above all to dark fruit, graphite-like minerality, freshness and a defined tannic frame.

About CH HAUT-BATAILLEY
Château Haut-Batailley is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, more specifically from the renowned Pauillac appellation in the Médoc. The estate has a long history in the wine world, dating back to the 18th century. Since the Bordeaux classification of 1855, Château Haut-Batailley has belonged to the Crus Classés as a fifth Grand Cru Classé (Cinquième Cru). For a long time, the estate was managed by the Borie family, until it was taken over in 2017 by the Cazes family, also known from Château Lynch-Bages. The vineyards are located on classic gravel soils, characteristic of Pauillac, and cover more than 20 hectares. The grape varieties are traditional for this region, with an emphasis on Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented with Merlot and a small share of Cabernet Franc. Château Haut-Batailley is known for its wines that combine power, elegance and refined complexity, often with a solid structure and potential for long aging. The estate works with respect for tradition, but under recent ownership has also invested in further quality and modernization of viticulture and vinification.
