Flavour notes

In the glass, Château Lagrange 2021 shows a deep red colour with purple reflections. The aroma moves from strawberry and raspberry into cassis, dark berries, red cherry and plum, followed by more classical Saint-Julien notes of violet, graphite, cedar, tobacco, liquorice and a lightly loamy nuance.

The palate starts supple and fleshy, then the cabernet-driven structure becomes clear. The tannins are firm, yet fine and controlled, supported by lively acidity and a fresh line through the wine. Medium to full in body, it finishes with a composed, classically structured feel.

Product info about Chateau Lagrange 2021 Magnum (1,5l)

Château Lagrange 2021 Magnum is the Grand Vin of this classified Saint-Julien estate, bottled here in the 1.5 litre format. The magnum is not a separate cuvée; it is the same red Bordeaux in a larger bottle, with the kind of presence that suits a table where a wine is opened, shared and followed over time.

The 2021 vintage is marked by an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend: 84%, alongside 14% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. That cabernet emphasis brings the wine close to the classical side of Saint-Julien, with structure, freshness and firm but refined tannins. The grapes come from Château Lagrange's red vineyard area, set on gravel ridges with a clay-limestone subsoil.

There is a strong sense of precision behind this release. The grapes were hand-harvested, then sorted manually and optically, before parcel and intra-parcel vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Ageing lasted 21 months, with 50% new barriques. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we like to explain properly, because its interest lies as much in the choices made in the vineyard and cellar as in the name on the label.

The cooler 2021 growing season helped preserve balance, while the Cabernet Sauvignon harvest was allowed extra time to refine concentration, tannin and aroma. Château Lagrange gives a drinking window from 2025 to 2050. For the table, the wine sits naturally beside red meat, lamb, game, poultry, grilled dishes and hard cheeses.

About CH LAGRANGE

Château Lagrange is a well-known wine producer from the Bordeaux region in France, located in the prestigious appellation of Saint-Julien on the left bank of the Gironde. The wine estate has a long history that goes back to the 18th century, with a prominent mention as Troisième Grand Cru Classé since the famous classification of 1855. The estate encompasses over 100 hectares of vineyards, where mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot are cultivated. Under the management of various owners throughout the centuries, including the Japanese Suntory since 1983, Château Lagrange has invested in modern vinification techniques and vineyard management, contributing to the consistent quality of their wines. The style of Château Lagrange is known for its balance, elegance, and the potential to age for a long time. In addition to the classic Grand Vin, the house also produces a second wine under the name Les Fiefs de Lagrange. The wines of Château Lagrange are loved by connoisseurs for their refined character and the typical, structured style of Saint-Julien.
