Pagodes de Cos Blanc 2021 is the white Pagodes cuvée from Cos d'Estournel, released as a Bordeaux Blanc. Although Cos d'Estournel is based in Saint-Estèphe, this white wine comes from the broader Bordeaux setting, with fruit from the northern Médoc close to the Gironde estuary.The 2021 blend is led by sauvignon blanc, with sémillon adding roundness and texture. Cos d'Estournel describes this vintage as the result of seventeen years of experience with white-wine growing and vinification, using vines that were up to 37 years old. That gives the wine a sense of intent rather than experiment.
The vintage itself was demanding, with cool and wet conditions during the growing season followed by drier, warmer moments that supported ripening. In the cellar, the estate used its gravity-fed facilities for gentle handling of the grapes. Cos D'Estournel is a winery from the French Bordeaux region, more specifically from the appellation Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate, which dates back to the early 19th century, is named after the founder Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, who developed the vineyard on the Cos hill into a distinctive wine estate. Cos D'Estournel is widely recognized as a Deuxième Cru Classé (Second Growth) according to the historical classification of 1855. The winery is known for its stylish, powerful red wines, which are usually blended with a relatively high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented with Merlot and sometimes small quantities of other Bordeaux grapes. The wines of Cos D'Estournel are often deep in color, with aromas of black fruit, spices and sometimes subtle wood, and generally offer great aging potential.
