Château Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse 2021 Demi is the estate's grand vin in half-bottle format. At 37.5 cl, it is a thoughtful size for opening a serious Saint-Émilion without committing to a full bottle.This red Bordeaux comes from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and belongs to the Premier Grand Cru Classé wines of the appellation. The 2021 vintage also marks an important chapter for the château, as it was the first year of a new phase under the Courtin-Clarins family together with Joséphine Duffau-Lagarrosse, the ninth generation of the Duffau-Lagarrosse family. For Drankenshop Broekmans, that makes this bottle interesting not only for its reputation, but also for the moment in the estate's story that it represents.
The blend is 73% Merlot and 27% Cabernet Franc, sourced from a small vineyard on and around the limestone plateau and slopes of Saint-Émilion. The grapes were hand-harvested, selected by parcel and vat, and vinified with a gentle, precise extraction. Ageing lasted 12 to 14 months, with 58% new barriques.
Rather than leaning on weight or overt ripeness, the 2021 is described through freshness, refinement and mineral drive. It has received strong critical recognition, yet its real appeal lies in the way red and dark fruit, floral detail, spice and limestone tension come together. With only the last bottles remaining, this half-bottle is a particularly attractive way to explore a high-level Saint-Émilion from a meaningful vintage.
