Château La Clotte 2021 is a dry red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, produced from a very small estate of around 4 hectares. Since 2014, La Clotte has been owned by the Vauthier family, known in the context of Château Ausone, and that background gives the wine a clear sense of scale: careful selection, close vineyard work and a focus on precision rather than volume.The vineyards sit behind the southern walls of Saint-Émilion, on limestone plateaus and clay-limestone slopes. South-facing terraces give the vines a sheltered position, while the old vines, with an average age of around 57 years, add another layer to the story of this vintage. The blend is 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc, placing the wine firmly in the Saint-Émilion tradition while keeping the 2021 style fresh and refined.
Harvesting was done by hand, followed by careful grape selection and gravity reception. Fermentation took place in stainless steel, with manual pigeage and submerged-cap maceration, before around 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels; for this vintage, full ageing in new oak is mentioned by several sources. Ch La Clotte is a wine label originating from Saint-Émilion in the Bordeaux region of France. The estate is surrounded by well-known neighbors and covers a relatively small, family-run vineyard area. The history of the property dates back to the 19th century, with a tradition of viticulture on a limestone-rich soil that is characteristic of this region. In 2014, the estate became part of the Vauthier family, known from Château Ausone, which brought even more attention to Ch La Clotte within the wine enthusiast circuit.
