Domaine de Chevalier 2021 Rouge Magnum is the red grand vin of Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan, within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. In 1.5-litre magnum format, it feels especially well matched to the nature of the wine: structured, age-worthy and shaped more by precision than by immediate opulence.The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, with merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc completing the cuvée. That cabernet emphasis is central to the 2021 story. The year was demanding, with spring frost, rain and mildew pressure, particularly affecting merlot, yet the later season brought more favourable conditions. A cool, dry, windy and sunny October helped cabernet sauvignon reach maturity. After careful selection in the vineyard and cellar, the wine spent 18 months in barriques, around one third of them new.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we like to present to customers who appreciate the more classical, fresh and structured side of Pessac-Léognan. Its Grand Cru Classé de Graves status places it firmly within the serious wines of the region, while the magnum format adds presence to a wine that the producer explicitly describes as made for cellaring.
