Domaine de Chevalier 2016 Rouge is the red grand vin of the estate in Léognan, within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. This is not the second wine, but the main red wine of Domaine de Chevalier, classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves. Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine its structural line, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot adding fruit, roundness and aromatic detail.
The 2016 vintage gives this bottle much of its interest. A wet start to the year replenished water reserves, followed by an exceptionally dry summer. Rain in mid-September brought relief to the vines, and the long late season helped the grapes reach further finesse and ripeness. The estate gives an official drinking window from 2026 to 2046.

The wine is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. Grapes were harvested by hand, carefully sorted, vinified parcel by parcel and aged for 16 to 18 months in barriques, around one third of them new.
