Product info about Chateau Guiraud 2010
Château Guiraud 2010 is a sweet white wine from Sauternes and the grand vin of a Premier Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification. The 2010 vintage is marked by slow, even botrytis development, giving the wine concentration while keeping a clear line of freshness.The blend is 65% sémillon and 35% sauvignon blanc. That relatively high proportion of sauvignon blanc is part of Guiraud's identity in Sauternes and helps explain the firmer, fresher structure of the wine. Harvesting is done by hand in successive passes through the vineyard, selecting only botrytised berries. No chaptalisation or cryo-extraction is used, so the richness comes from the grapes themselves.
Fermentation takes place in new oak barrels, followed by 24 months of ageing. The result is a mature Sauternes with depth, sweetness and lift rather than simple heaviness. As these are the last bottles, the 2010 vintage has particular appeal for anyone looking for a developed bottle with proven ageing capacity.
