Château Cos d'Estournel 2022 in demi-bottle is the Grand Vin of the estate from Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The 37.5 cl format is simply the half-bottle size, not a different cuvée: it is the same red Saint-Estèphe AOC from a château classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855.The 2022 vintage is shaped by early ripening, warmth and dry conditions. On the hill of Cos, the deep roots of older vines and the clay-rich parts of the vineyard were important in handling the heat and drought. Cabernet sauvignon forms the core of the blend, supported by a substantial share of merlot and small amounts of cabernet franc and petit verdot.
In the cellar, the work was carried out parcel by parcel, using gravity to handle the grapes and must gently. Because the merlot showed a high tannin potential, extraction was kept measured to preserve freshness and fruit. The wine then matured for 18 months in barriques, 50% of them new oak.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this demi-bottle is a particularly attractive way to approach a serious Bordeaux when a full bottle is not required. It deserves a little preparation: for young vintages after 2015, the estate recommends at least two hours of decanting and serving at 15 to 16 °C. Its structure makes it a natural companion to robust dishes such as grilled red meat, lamb, game, truffle and mushroom-based preparations.

Château Cos d'Estournel is a renowned winery from the French Bordeaux region, specifically located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation in the Médoc. The estate was founded in the early 19th century by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, who dedicated himself to producing complex and characterful wines exclusively from his own vineyards. Cos d'Estournel is known as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé since the famous 1855 classification, in which it was counted among the top of the region. The winery covers about 100 hectares and has been expanded and modernized during various periods, but the distinctive Asian-inspired architecture and the impressive gatehouse are still iconic. The wine of Château Cos d'Estournel is traditionally characterized by a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot and occasionally small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
