Flavour notes

The wine is described as dark garnet in colour, with aromas of red and black fruit: blackberry, black cherry, blackcurrant, dark berries, mulberry and blue fruit. Floral notes of peony are joined by spice, brioche, vanilla, blond tobacco, chocolate-toned oak and earthy, loamy nuances.

On the palate it is medium to full in body, round and juicy, with a fresh line running through the ripe dark fruit. The tannins are clearly present yet ripe, silky, velvety and well integrated. The finish is persistent, showing the structure of a young Pomerol that is built for further development.

Product info about Chateau Gazin 2022

Château Gazin 2022 is the estate's red grand vin from Pomerol in Bordeaux. Merlot is firmly at the centre of the blend, supported by small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine comes from Gazin's own vineyard on the Pomerol plateau, a single block of around 26 hectares with gravel-rich soils, blue and green clay, and iron oxides.

The 2022 growing season was hot and dry, producing small berries and a lower yield than usual. One detail makes this vintage particularly noteworthy: Château Gazin did not produce its second wine, L'Hospitalet de Gazin, in 2022. The stated production for Château Gazin 2022 is 67,000 bottles. At Drankenshop Broekmans, that gives the wine a very specific place in the selection, especially as these are the last bottles.

In the cellar, the approach was based on grape selection, fermentation in concrete vats and moderate extraction, in line with the ripe tannins of the year. Ageing took place in oak barriques for 14 to 16 months, with roughly half new barrels and half one-year-old barrels. The wine has also received attention from several recognised wine publications, but its real interest lies in the combination of ripe Pomerol fruit, structure and long ageing potential.

Opened young, it benefits from decanting to give the wine air. The château's guidance points towards patience until around 2032/2034 for optimal tasting, while other drinking windows extend further. At the table, it belongs with dishes such as beef, veal, lamb, pork, duck, game or roasted, braised, stewed and grilled preparations.

About CH GAZIN

Château Gazin is a French winery from the famous Bordeaux region and is known for its production of red wine on the right bank area of the Dordogne river. The estate is located in Pomerol, a relatively small but prestigious wine appellation that is internationally regarded as the birthplace of some of the most highly valued Bordeaux wines. The winery has a long history dating back to the 18th century and extends over approximately 26 hectares of vineyards. The vines consist mainly of Merlot, supplemented with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, a composition that is characteristic of many Pomerol wines. Château Gazin distinguishes itself through its classic, elegant style that combines the rich, soft characteristics of Merlot with structure and complexity. The wines are generally made in a traditional manner and age in oak barrels, which gives refined aromas and good aging potential in the bottle. Château Gazin is regularly appreciated by wine lovers and collectors for its consistent quality and its ability to age excellently.
