Product info about Chateau Charmail 2022
Château Charmail 2022 is a red Haut-Médoc from France, rooted on Bordeaux's Left Bank. The estate is located in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, just north of Saint-Estèphe, and this is the château's first wine. At Drankenshop Broekmans, it stands out as a Bordeaux where place and vintage both have something to say.The 2022 growing season was shaped by extremes. A severe hailstorm affected a significant part of the vineyard, leaving lower yields behind. The remaining grapes were harvested entirely by hand and carefully selected, giving the wine a naturally concentrated dark-fruited core.
The blend brings together merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Merlot carries much of the ripe dark fruit, cabernet sauvignon gives the wine its frame, while cabernet franc and petit verdot add floral and spicy detail. The winemaking followed a gentle path, with cold maceration, low-temperature extraction and an infusion-like handling of the must.
Ageing took place over twelve months in 500-litre demi-muids and cement eggs. That combination gives room for development without making oak the whole story. The wine is also referred to as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel and has received strong critical recognition from names including Terre de Vins, James Suckling and Yves Beck. With the last bottles now available, this is a fine opportunity to discover this particular Charmail vintage while it is still within reach.
