Château Clos René 2022 is a red Pomerol from Bordeaux's Right Bank, made in a firmly traditional style. Merlot forms the core of the wine, supported by Cabernet Franc and Malbec, giving it the familiar Pomerol combination of ripe fruit, structure and a calm, measured depth.Clos René is an old Pomerol estate, recorded as Reney as early as 1764. Its vineyard lies on the western slope of the Pomerol plateau, with old gravel and sand deposits over an iron-rich subsoil. That detail is more than background here: the tasting descriptions repeatedly point to a mineral, iron-like nuance that sits alongside the ripe red and dark fruit of the 2022 vintage.
The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented in temperature-controlled cement vats and matured for around 18 months in oak barrels. The oak brings cedar-like spice and savoury depth, while the wine keeps its fruit and medium-bodied shape rather than becoming overly heavy.

Clos Rene is a French wine producer located in the Bordeaux region, specifically in the Pomerol wine area on the right bank of the Dordogne. The vineyard of Clos Rene has a long wine tradition that dates back to the end of the 19th century. The name Clos Rene refers to a so-called 'clos', a walled vineyard, which used to be a mark of quality winegrowing in this area. The vineyards cover about 15 hectares and are planted with grape varieties typical for Pomerol, such as merlot, cabernet franc and a small percentage of malbec. Clos Rene wines are usually known for their accessible style, with fruity notes and a soft structure, which means they can be ready to drink relatively young, but also have the potential to age. The Garde family and Jean-Marie Garde have long been involved in managing the estate, and production partly adheres to traditional methods of vinification and maturation in oak.
