Quinta Da Fonte Souto Florão Red 2022 is a Portuguese red wine from Symington, grown at Quinta da Fonte Souto in Portalegre, Alto Alentejo. The estate sits on the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede at around 500 metres altitude, where the climate is cooler and more humid than on the warmer Alentejo plain.Florão Red is intended as the younger-drinking, more approachable red in the Fonte Souto range. The 2022 growing season brought low rainfall and several heatwaves, yet cooler September conditions helped the grapes retain aromatic expression. In the glass, the wine remains dry, fruit-driven and supple, with freshness playing an important role.
The grapes were hand-harvested, carefully sorted and vinified in separate lots. Most of the final blend spent six months in 400-litre French oak barrels of third and fourth use, so the oak influence stays gentle: a little toast and depth, rather than a dominant woody character.
