Monokini Beau Marais 2023 is a Belgian white natural wine from Beringen in West Limburg. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see it as a wine for people who enjoy a very direct style: no oak influence, no polished gloss, just freshness, tension and pure fruit in a still white blend.Chardonnay forms the main part of the wine, with smaller amounts of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Beau Marais works in a cool-climate setting around Beringen, including vineyards in Beverlo and Koersel, where ripeness is paired with retained acidity.
The cellar work is kept minimal. Fermentation happens spontaneously with native yeasts from the vineyard and winery, the wine also goes through malolactic fermentation, is bottled unfiltered and sees no oak ageing. According to the producer, nothing is added, including sulphites.
At 11% alcohol, the 2023 vintage stays bright, lively and easy to drink. As we are now down to the last bottles, it is a particularly nice find for those following the development of Belgian natural wine.
