Quinta da Fonte Souto Syrah 2021 gives a cooler, more refined reading of Alentejo red wine. It comes from Alto Alentejo, near Portalegre, where Quinta da Fonte Souto sits at around 500 metres altitude in the Serra de São Mamede. That setting matters: the wine has the ripeness and structure of Syrah, but also lively acidity and a more precise aromatic lift.The estate belongs to the Symington family and is their wine project outside the Douro. This bottling presents Syrah as a single variety within a limited varietal range designed to show the character of the estate's vineyards. Old, low-yielding vines and careful work in the cellar give the wine its depth and definition.
Maturation took place for 12 months in second-fill French oak barrels, adding support without pushing the wine into an overtly oak-driven style. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a Portuguese red for those who enjoy Syrah with freshness, structure and a clear sense of place.
