Quinta da Fonte Souto Taifa 2022 is a white wine that shows how much finesse the northern Alentejo can deliver when altitude shapes the style. The grapes come from the Fonte Souto vineyard at around 500 metres in Portalegre, influenced by the Serra de São Mamede. That setting gives the wine its freshness and poise, while ripe fruit brings depth and substance.Taifa is the top white cuvée from Quinta da Fonte Souto, Symington's Alentejo estate. It is made from a strict selection of Arinto and Verdelho parcels. The 2022 vintage was dry and hot, yet the producer notes that the grapes retained pronounced acidity, giving the wine a clear line of freshness alongside its ripeness.
The winemaking is careful rather than showy: hand harvesting, gentle pressing, fermentation beginning in stainless steel, followed by 11 months on the lees in 500-litre French and Hungarian oak barrels. Regular bâtonnage adds texture and harmony, while the larger barrels help keep the oak influence measured.
