La Capitelle de Baronarques 2015 is the second red wine of Domaine de Baronarques, from Limoux in the Languedoc. It is made from estate-grown fruit around Saint-Polycarpe and brings together merlot, cabernet franc, syrah and malbec. That blend gives the wine its particular identity: part Bordeaux-influenced structure, part southern French warmth.The vineyards sit at 250 to 350 metres above sea level, shaped by Mediterranean and Atlantic influences, with cooling air from the Pyrenees. The 2015 growing season was early and healthy, with warm spring and summer conditions followed by steady ripening before harvest. Grapes were hand-picked, carefully sorted and moved by gravity into the tanks.
After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was matured in tank and cask, including six months in barrique. The oak ageing adds depth without taking the focus away from the dark fruit and savoury spice of the cuvée. At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of mature Languedoc red we like to point out when someone is looking for a wine with structure, development and a clear sense of place.
Guide Hachette awarded the 2015 two stars, described it as a 'vin remarquable' and gave it a Coup de Cœur; other references also place it around 92 points. With the final bottles now remaining, it is a particularly appealing moment to discover La Capitelle de Baronarques in a vintage that has had time to settle.

About DOMAINE DE BARONARQUES
Domaine de Baronarques is a wine estate located in the Limoux region, in the southwest of France. The estate is part of the Rothschild family (Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A.), who have owned it since 1998. Domaine de Baronarques combines a centuries-old wine tradition with contemporary quality standards and innovation. The vineyards are situated at the foot of the Pyrénées and benefit from the unique microclimate of the area, where both Atlantic and Mediterranean influences come together. The estate covers more than 100 hectares, of which approximately 43 hectares are planted with grapevines suitable for the production of both red and white wines. Here, among others, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah and Chardonnay are cultivated. The wines are known for their elegant style, freshness, and complexity, and clearly reflect the character of their region of origin. Since the takeover by the Rothschild family, substantial investments have been made in renovating the cellar and the vineyard, which has contributed to increasing international recognition. Domaine de Baronarques produces various cuvées that regularly receive positive reviews in the wine world.
