Kavalan Lan gives a clear sense of why Taiwan has become a meaningful name in whisky since 2006. Kavalan was born as Taiwan's first distillery, driven by King Car whisky, and its name pays tribute to an ancient local tribe known for its agricultural culture.
Lan refers to the Chinese character for orchid, a nod to Taiwan as the Kingdom of Orchids. That idea fits closely with Kavalan's stated style: fruity, floral, fresh and gently spiced. The whisky is made with unpeated malt imported from Scotland, allowing that softer aromatic side to come through without peat shaping the profile.
