About METAXA
Metaxa is a beverage brand from Greece that has existed since 1888. The founder, Spyros Metaxa, developed a unique distillate in which elements of brandy, wine, and herbs come together. Production today takes place in Kiffisia near Athens. Metaxa is made based on a blend of grape distillates and muscat wines originating from, among others, Samos and Lemnos, after which the mixture matures for a longer period in oak barrels. The final result is completed with a secret mix of herbs, with rose petals often mentioned as a characteristic ingrediënt. Metaxa distinguishes itself in the world of spirits by its smooth character and distinctive, sweet-spicy profile. The brand is available in various editions, indicated by stars, which refer to, among other things, the maturation time and composition. In Greece, Metaxa is a household name, but internationally the brand has also built up a loyal following.
