Flavour notes
Almaviva 2019 shows a deep, dark ruby colour and an aromatic range built around ripe dark and red fruit. Raspberry, cassis, blackberry, wild strawberry, blackcurrant and dark cherry are joined by liquorice, coffee, earth, ink and graphite-like notes.On the palate it is full, juicy and generous, with polished tannins and firm structure. Almaviva 2019 in magnum is a Chilean red wine with a clear Bordeaux-inspired identity. It comes from Puente Alto in the Maipo Valley and is produced by Viña Almaviva S.A., the partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Viña Concha y Toro. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the 2019 blend, supported by Carménère, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and a small proportion of Merlot.Its origin is central to the wine's personality. The vineyards sit on the northern bank of the Maipo River, around 650 metres above sea level at the foot of the Andes. Poor, stony alluvial soils, good drainage and cool Andean breezes are highlighted by the producer as important factors in preserving acidity while building colour and aromatic concentration.
The 2019 growing season in Puente Alto was drier and warmer than average, giving smaller berries with intense flavour and colour. The grapes were carefully selected, fermented in stainless steel and matured for 18 months in new French oak barrels. The result is a dry, full-bodied red with serious structure and a pronounced sense of concentration.
