Quintessa 2018 Magnum is the 1.5-litre format of Quintessa's red estate wine from Rutherford in Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Carménère and Petit Verdot, giving it the shape of a Bordeaux-style Napa Valley red with clear estate identity.The 2018 vintage is an important part of the story. Quintessa describes the season as even and balanced, with no pronounced extremes and a long harvest period from 18 September to 25 October. That slower rhythm allowed the fruit to reach phenolic ripeness while keeping freshness and structure, a key reason why this vintage is spoken of with such confidence.
In production, Quintessa works block by block. Grapes are picked early in the morning, sorted, and moved by gravity into oak, stainless steel or concrete tanks. The separate vineyard components are vinified individually before the final blend is made. Maturation lasted 20 months in French oak barrels, 62% of them new. The estate is farmed organically and biodynamically, with CCOF Organic certification noted for the 2018 release.

Quintessa is a winery from Napa Valley, California, that has positioned itself since its first harvest in 1994 as a producer of wines exclusively from its own estate. This estate is located in the prestigious Rutherford appellation and covers approximately 113 hectares, where various grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carménère are carefully planted. Quintessa mainly produces a single wine per vintage, usually a blend of the aforementioned Bordeaux varietals, which reflects the estate's terroir. The vineyard and winery employ a biodynamic and sustainable approach, which plays an important role both in the vineyards and during the vinification process. The estate is known for its elegant, balanced style, in which complexity and aging potential come together, with an emphasis on purity of fruit and restrained use of oak.
