Valandraud Blanc 2019 is a serious white Bordeaux from a name more often associated with Saint-Émilion reds. This is the white grand wine of Château Valandraud, the estate of the Andraud-Thunevin family, but it sits under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation: dry, still and built around sauvignon gris, sauvignon blanc and sémillon.For the 2019 vintage, the blend is 50% sauvignon gris, 40% sauvignon blanc and 10% sémillon. The grapes come from clay-limestone parcels near the estate. Valandraud's white vineyard was planted from 2000 onwards, with the first vintage of this cuvée released in 2003, giving the wine a relatively young but clearly defined identity within the wider Valandraud story.
The production approach is careful and ambitious: hand harvesting with sorting, cooled grapes, pneumatic pressing, fermentation in barrels and tanks, and ageing on fine lees. Oak plays a role, and for this period terracotta amphorae are also mentioned alongside new barrels. That combination helps explain the wine's full-bodied, textured style, without reducing it to simple oak influence.

About VALANDRAUD
Valandraud is a wine brand from Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, that was founded in 1989 by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud. What started as a relatively modest vineyard of about 0.6 hectare grew into a remarkable phenomenon in the world of Bordeaux wines. Valandraud is often associated with the so-called 'garagistes' movement: small producers who, with great care and craftsmanship, create distinctive and expressive wines, often outside traditional rules. The estate is known for its limited production and intensive selection, with emphasis on terroir and manual vinification. In the meantime, the vineyard covers a significantly larger area, spread over various plots in Saint-Émilion. The wines of Valandraud are usually composed mainly of Merlot, supplemented with variable amounts of Cabernet Franc and sometimes other grape varieties. The style is often regarded as rich, full-bodied and concentrated, with both the complexity and power of the Bordeaux region well represented. In 2012, Chateau Valandraud was officially classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé, thereby gaining worldwide recognition as one of the leading producers from Saint-Émilion.
