Flavour notes

Clos de l'Oratoire 2019 shows a deep purple-red colour in the glass. The aroma brings together dark and red fruit, with blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry, black raspberry and plum, followed by violet, tobacco leaf, cedar, mint and an earthy undergrowth note.

On the palate it is medium to full in body, with ripe dark fruit, freshness and a spicy thread. The tannins are described as fine to compact, giving the wine structure while keeping the supple Merlot core intact. The finish carries graphite, pencil shavings, bitter chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon and wild sage with good persistence.

Product info about Clos De L'oratoire 2019

Clos de l'Oratoire 2019 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Emilion, from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation and classified as Grand Cru Classé. The 2019 vintage is built around 81% Merlot with 19% Cabernet Franc, giving the wine a generous Merlot core while retaining the aromatic lift, structure and length associated here with Cabernet Franc.

The estate sits on the north-eastern slope of Saint-Emilion, with clay-limestone, molasse de Fronsac and clay-sand soils across its vineyards. For this vintage, the wine spent 30 days in cuvaison with extraction by pneumatic pigeage, followed by 16 months on fine lees in barriques, 50% of them new oak. It was bottled at the château in May 2021 without fining.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Saint-Emilion we like to present when someone is looking for a serious Bordeaux with depth, ageing potential and a polished fruit-driven presence. The 2019 vintage received strong recognition, including 96 points from Jeb Dunnuck and 94 points from James Suckling. With the last bottles now available, it has become a more focused choice for anyone still looking to secure this particular vintage.

Clos de l'Oratoire is made with cellaring in mind. The producer indicates that it can generally be approached from around the seventh year after harvest, while several specialist reviews point to longer development ahead. Its structure and flavour profile make it a natural partner for grilled beef, lamb, game, poultry with mushrooms or morels, and mature cheese.

About CLOS DE L'ORATOIRE

Clos De L'Oratoire is a French wine producer based in the Bordeaux region, specifically within the Saint-émilion Grand Cru appellation. The estate belongs to the so-called Grands Crus Classés of Saint-émilion, a classification that stands for a long tradition and a certain standard of quality in this famous wine region. Clos De L'Oratoire has been owned by Stephan von Neipperg, a well-known name in Bordeaux who manages several chateaux, since the 1990s. The vineyard of Clos De L'Oratoire covers approximately 13 hectares and is planted with merlot, cabernet franc, and a small portion of cabernet sauvignon. The merlot grape usually plays the leading role, resulting in wines with a remarkably silky texture and a juicy, ripe fruit character. The production approaches a classic style from Saint-émilion, with maturation in French oak barrels providing extra depth and complexity. Clos De L'Oratoire is internationally appreciated as a representative of accessible, elegant Bordeaux wines and regularly appears in reviews by wine critics. The winery combines respect for tradition with modern insights, with much focus on the quality of both the vineyard and the wine cellar.
