Château Gruaud Larose 2020 is the grand vin of the estate in Saint-Julien, in the Médoc. As a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries a strong Bordeaux identity, but the 2020 vintage is especially notable for its concentration, structure and long-term ageing potential.The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet franc. The grapes were harvested by hand, selected in the vineyard and then sorted again on arrival. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, with each vat tasted daily, followed by 18 months of ageing in fine-grained French oak barrels, the great majority of them new.
The growing season was far from straightforward. A very wet winter and warm, humid spring were followed by hail in April and strong mildew pressure, before a long hot, dry spell shaped the summer. Thunderstorms in August and September helped complete ripening according to the château. That background gives useful context to a wine described as young, compact and firmly structured, with drinking windows often stretching well into the future.

About CH GRUAUD LAROSE
Château Gruaud Larose is a winery from the well-known Bordeaux region in France, located in the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. This château belongs to the so-called Deuxièmes Crus, or the second classified growths according to the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855. Château Gruaud Larose is known for its rich history that dates back to the 18th century. The vineyards cover just over 80 hectares and are mostly planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and a small proportion of Malbec. Gruaud Larose wines are often known for their powerful structure, complexity, and aging potential, which is typical for Saint-Julien. Production takes place entirely on the estate itself, from vineyard to bottling, with great attention paid to tradition and craftsmanship. In addition to the grand vin, Gruaud Larose also produces a second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose, made from younger vines and lots that do not make it into the main cuvée. The château has been owned by Groupe Taillan since the late 1990s, and is overseen by an experienced team that combines old traditions with modern techniques to ensure consistent quality.
