Chateau Gruaud Larose 1989 (Ex-Chateau 2021)
On request only
Château Gruaud Larose 1989 is the grand vin of Château Gruaud Larose from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. It is a classic Left Bank red Bordeaux, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate's status as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification gives the wine its historical setting, but the real interest here lies in the maturity of the 1989 vintage.
The Ex-Château 2021 note refers to the provenance or release of this particular parcel from the château. It is not a separate cuvée, but for an older Bordeaux it is a meaningful detail. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we pay close attention to that kind of background, especially with bottles where age, storage and origin (…)Chateau Gruaud Larose 2019

Chateau Gruaud Larose 2019

Château Gruaud Larose 2019 is the grand vin of a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Julien in the Médoc. Its identity is closely tied to place: vineyards in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, planted on Garonne gravel, give a Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux with structure, dark fruit and a mineral edge.
The 2019 blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Fermentation took place in a cellar using both cement vats and temperature-controlled wooden vats, followed by 18 months in French oak barriques, 80% of them new. In the tasting notes, the oak comes through as cedar, subtle toast, vanilla, spice and dark chocolate rather than as a dominant layer.
The growing season had several turning points: a wet first half of (…)Chateau Gruaud Larose 2019 Demi (37,5cl)

Château Gruaud Larose 2019 Demi is the first wine of Château Gruaud Larose from Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in the Médoc. The word demi refers to the 37.5 cl half-bottle format, not to a separate cuvée. Inside the bottle is the estate's dry red Bordeaux from AOC Saint-Julien, from a château classified as Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855.
The 2019 vintage is firmly led by Cabernet Sauvignon, making up 72% of the blend, alongside 25% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. The fruit comes from the château's 82-hectare estate, with Garonne gravel soils and the nearby Gironde shaping the conditions of the growing season. A wet spring was followed by dry summer spells, heatwaves and storms, with rain before harvest helping the Cabernet (…)Chateau Gruaud Larose 2019 Magnum (1,5l)

Chateau Gruaud Larose 2019 Magnum (1,5l)
On request only
Château Gruaud Larose 2019 Magnum is a serious Saint-Julien from the Médoc, presented in the generous 1.5-litre format. As the grand vin of Château Gruaud Larose and a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries a clear Bordeaux identity: structured, age-worthy and rooted in the Left Bank tradition.
Cabernet sauvignon leads the 2019 blend, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet franc. That cabernet dominance gives the wine its dark-fruited drive, firm but polished tannins and fresh line. Maturation in French oak barriques, with a high proportion of new oak, adds depth and savoury detail without turning the wine into a purely powerful statement.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this magnum (…)Chateau Gruaud Larose 2020

Chateau Gruaud Larose 2020

Château Gruaud Larose 2020 is the grand vin of the estate in Saint-Julien, in the Médoc. As a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries a strong Bordeaux identity, but the 2020 vintage is especially notable for its concentration, structure and long-term ageing potential.
The blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet franc. The grapes were harvested by hand, selected in the vineyard and then sorted again on arrival. Vinification was carried out parcel by parcel, with each vat tasted daily, followed by 18 months of ageing in fine-grained French oak barrels, the great majority of them new.
The growing season was far from straightforward. A very wet winter and (…)Chateau Gruaud Larose 2021

Chateau Gruaud Larose 2021

Château Gruaud Larose 2021 is the grand vin of this Saint-Julien estate in the Médoc. As a Second Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it carries real Bordeaux pedigree, yet the 2021 vintage is less about sheer power and more about freshness, tension and careful selection.
Cabernet Sauvignon forms the heart of the blend, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The estate describes 2021 as a year that required patience: a cool, wet spring, a later path to full ripeness and a final phase in which Cabernet Sauvignon came strongly into its own. Harvesting was done by hand, with selection in the vineyard and double sorting at the cellar.
The vineyard work is described as following organic and biodynamic principles across the estate, (…)Chateau Gruaud Larose 2021 Demi (37,5cl)

Chateau Gruaud Larose 2021 Demi is the estate's grand vin in a 37.5 cl half-bottle format. It is a dry red Bordeaux from AOC Saint-Julien in the Médoc, classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. The bottle is smaller, but the wine inside is the same 2021 cuvée.
Cabernet sauvignon is the clear backbone here, making up 84% of the blend, with merlot and cabernet franc completing it. The 2021 growing season brought a later path to ripeness, and the château highlights freshness and tension as defining features of the year. At 12.5% alcohol, it sits on the more restrained side for Bordeaux, matching the poised, structured character described for this vintage.
There is also a strong sense of selection (…)Chateau Gruaud Larose 2022

Château Gruaud Larose 2022 is the grand vin of this Saint-Julien estate in the Médoc, a French red Bordeaux with the standing of a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification. It is clearly led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet franc, giving the wine the firm, structured identity one expects from a serious Saint-Julien.
The 2022 vintage was warm and sunny, producing numerous small berries with thick skins, deep colour and significant tannin. At the château, the grapes were hand-harvested, first selected in the vineyard, then sorted by hand and optically on arrival. Vinification was carried out by parcel, grape variety, terroir and vine age in temperature-controlled wooden vats.

Château Gruaud Larose 2022 Demi is the estate's grand vin from Saint-Julien, presented in a 37.5 cl half bottle. The format is smaller, but the wine remains the same in identity: a red AOC Saint-Julien and a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification.
The 2022 vintage is strongly shaped by Cabernet Sauvignon, which makes up 83% of the blend, alongside Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The fruit comes from the 82-hectare estate on Garonne gravel, with vines averaging 48 years of age. A warm, sunny growing season produced small berries with thick skins, bringing colour and tannic depth, while cooler September nights helped complete Cabernet Sauvignon ripening with freshness intact.

Sarget de Gruaud Larose 2019 is the second wine of Château Gruaud Larose in Saint-Julien, on Bordeaux's left bank. It comes from the same estate whose grand vin is classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, but it presents that heritage in a more immediately approachable form. The Sarget name refers to a historical branch within the château's story.
The 2019 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon and merlot, supported by cabernet franc and petit verdot. Grapes were harvested by hand and sorted both in the vineyard and on arrival at the cellar. Vinification was handled by parcel selection, taking grape variety, terroir and vine age into account. That careful approach gives the wine a clear Saint-Julien identity: structured, (…)Sarget De Gruaud Larose 2020

Sarget De Gruaud Larose 2020

Sarget De Gruaud Larose 2020 is the second wine of Château Gruaud Larose in Saint-Julien, a château closely tied to the classic Left Bank identity of Bordeaux. In this vintage, merlot and cabernet sauvignon sit almost side by side in the blend, with petit verdot and cabernet franc adding further detail. The result stays firmly within the Saint-Julien style, while offering a more immediate reading than the château's first wine.
There is a clear sense of selection behind the bottle. The grapes were hand-harvested, sorted in the vineyard and then sorted again on arrival. Vinification was carried out by plot, grape variety, terroir and vine age, followed by at least fourteen months in fine-grained French oak barriques. With only a modest proportion of new oak, (…)
