Château Troplong Mondot 2020 is a dry red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, produced as the estate's main wine. It is not the separate Mondot cuvée, but Château Troplong Mondot itself, carrying the Premier Grand Cru Classé status of Saint-Émilion.The 2020 vintage is built mainly on Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Cabernet Franc completing the blend. The estate sits on a high part of the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, with clay, flint, limestone and silty clay over limestone forming the basis of the terroir. In an early, dry year, those deep clay-limestone soils helped retain freshness, a key point in a wine with this level of concentration.
Maturation in French oak, with a substantial share of new barrels, frames the wine without making oak the whole story. The style described for the domaine in this period moves away from excessive ripeness and extraction, giving more room to precision, fine tannins and the mineral character of the site.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this Troplong Mondot as a Saint-Émilion with real cellaring ambition: structured, layered and made to develop over time. The available notes also indicate that, with air, it can be approached earlier. It is a natural partner for roasted, braised, stewed or grilled meats, duck, game, mushroom dishes and mature cheese. Château Troplong Mondot is a winery that is located on the distinctive limestone hills of Saint-Émilion, in the heart of Bordeaux, France. The estate has a history dating back to the 18th century and is particularly known for its vineyards, which benefit from a unique location on the highest points of the Saint-Émilion plateau. The name Troplong refers to the family who developed the estate in the 19th century, while Mondot refers to the original part of the property. Since 2006, it has been classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé B, a recognition within the classification system of Saint-Émilion.
